Join artists in The Lord Mayor’s Pavilion as they share insights into their work in our current exhibition of San Francisco Artist Studios members ‘Contemporary Perspectives’ and their wider practices. Find out more about ‘Contemporary Perspectives’
Artists Emily Eunnuri Lee Dobbs, Alexandru Salceanu, Nate Mahoney, Ebti, Daniel Valenza, Laura Vitolina and Ingrid V. Wells present ‘Contemporary Perspectives’, an exhibition celebrating the transatlantic partnership between San Francisco Artists Studios (San Francisco, California) and Sample-Studios (Cork, Ireland). This exhibition coalesces multiple worldviews which address our current shared challenges, with artists originally hailing from South Korea, Romania, Latvia, Cairo and other parts of the United States. Addressing issues including belonging, resilience, radical compassion and resonance across distances, we aim to deepen our meaningful connection between artist collectives and foster a greater sense of community, as we mark the 40th anniversary of Cork and San Francisco being Twinned Cities.
San Francisco Artists Studios are located in Yelamu, also known as San Francisco, on the unceded territories of Ramaytush Ohlone peoples. Artists and craftsmen work out of individual studio spaces to pursue their creative goals. Together we foster community by hosting artist events including critiques, professional development workshops and open studios.
We are proud partners in programming with Sample-Studios in Cork, Ireland. In response to the pandemic, with limits to in person programming, our international partnership was developed. Together, since 2021, we have hosted an annual series of professional development workshops for artists, responding to the specific needs of our sister artists communities and fostering international connections.
This exhibition is supported by The Arts Council of Ireland and Cork City Council.

What the Forest Bathing: Queer Portraits in Nature series is about.
This series documents queer people exploring and being rejuvenated by forest bathing in nature. The collaboration with queer subjects across the spectrum of LGBTQIA+ includes video interviews and still photographs to share that sense of calm with our community. The goal is to capture a human centered portrait in nature and bring back that green natural environment to the gallery space.
There is an open call to be photographed for this ongoing project. Link to participate.
About the artist
Nate Mahoney creates work inspired by dualities. Design and Art. Video and Still Photography. Nature and Urban. The work is centered on compassion for others surviving in our complex and often inhospitable world. As a queer artist, design researcher, and urban dweller, Nate reacts to the city with inspired work that communicates connections between people, time, nature, place, and space. Nate lives and works in downtown San Francisco, California.
